IRCAD Africa Center

The IRCAD Africa Institution, nestled in Kigali, Rwanda, was launched on the 7th of October 2023. This historic moment marked the inauguration of the very first center of excellence for minimally invasive surgery on the African continent. With 3 courses under its belt in 2023, and more planned for 2024, IRCAD Africa aims to combine research, innovation, and surgeon training to enhance access to healthcare not only in Africa but also worldwide.

We provide a wide range of courses throughout the year catering to various specialties to choose from.
Courses are available as either basic training or intensive training, and both options include a theoretical session as well as a practical laboratory that involves working with live tissue.

Under the initiative of Professor Jean-Marc Egly, President of the Scientific Board, research laboratories have merged their activities to focus on digestive cancer prevention, to improve early cancer diagnosis, and to implement new therapeutic strategies.

In a pioneering spirit true to the Institute’s image, the R&D department in computer science and medical imaging has been considerably strengthened by pioneering engineers and computer scientists
