Course Objectives

The Endourology Masterclass aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the latest evidence-based approaches to the diagnosis and minimally invasive surgical management of urinary stone disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and other common urological conditions. The course is designed to strengthen participants' knowledge of current international guidelines, modern endourological equipment, surgical techniques, patient safety, and the prevention and management of procedure-related complications.

What to Expect

Participants will engage in a combination of expert-led lectures, interactive discussions, semi-live surgical demonstrations, and supervised hands-on training sessions. Throughout the two-day programme, they will gain practical experience in rigid and flexible ureteroscopy, intracorporeal lithotripsy, percutaneous renal surgery, TURBT, and TURP techniques while learning best practices for radiation and laser safety. The course concludes with debriefing sessions, discussions on professional development in urology, and the presentation of certificates to all participants who successfully complete the programme.

Course Overview

This intensive two-day course provides a comprehensive introduction to modern endourology, covering the diagnosis and surgical management of urinary stone disease, ureteroscopy, percutaneous renal surgery, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and transurethral surgery. Participants will benefit from expert lectures, semi-live surgical demonstrations, and extensive hands-on practical training.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand current international guidelines for urinary stone disease and BPH.
  • Select appropriate equipment for rigid and flexible ureteroscopy.
  • Perform rigid and flexible ureteroscopy safely and effectively.
  • Apply modern intracorporeal lithotripsy techniques.
  • Prevent and manage complications of endourological procedures.
  • Understand radiation and laser safety principles.
  • Perform basic transurethral bladder tumor resection (TURBT).
  • Understand the principles of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).
  • Gain practical experience through supervised hands-on training.
  • Appreciate strategies for planning urologic services in Africa.
